Background Transparent

Automatic removal works best with a clearly visible foreground subject. Hair, fur, glass, shadows, overlapping objects and complex scenes can produce different results.

What Is an Image Background Remover?

An image background remover uses automatic foreground segmentation to separate the main subject from the surrounding background. The isolated subject can then be downloaded as a PNG with transparency or placed on a solid background.

How to Remove a Background

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Select the removal mode you prefer.
  3. Click Remove Background.
  4. Review the transparent result.
  5. Select Transparent, White, Black or a custom color.
  6. Download the finished PNG.

Best Images for Background Removal

Results are usually strongest when the main subject is sharp, well lit and visually distinct from the background. Fine hair, fur, glass, smoke, motion blur, low contrast and complicated overlapping objects can be more difficult for automatic segmentation.

Image Background Remover FAQ

Is my image uploaded to a background-removal server?
No. The selected image is processed locally by the background-removal model running in your browser. Model/runtime files must still be downloaded when required.
Why is the first background removal slower?
The first use can take longer because the browser needs to download and initialize the segmentation model. Cached model resources can make later processing faster.
What is Best Quality mode?
Best Quality uses the larger ISNet model. It requires more data, memory and processing time but can provide stronger results for difficult images.
What is Balanced mode?
Balanced uses the FP16 ISNet model and is intended to provide a practical balance between processing requirements and result quality.
What is Faster mode?
Faster mode uses the smaller quantized model. It requires less model data but can sometimes create more edge artifacts.
Why does the tool sometimes remove objects I wanted to keep?
Automatic segmentation predicts which parts of an image belong to the main foreground. In complex scenes, it may interpret people or another prominent subject as foreground while excluding surrounding objects.
Does the downloaded PNG really contain transparency?
Yes. With Transparent selected, the resulting PNG contains an alpha channel. White, Black and Custom Color options are genuinely rendered into the downloaded PNG.
Why can PNG output be larger than the original JPG?
JPEG photos are often heavily compressed, while transparent PNG images use a different encoding and must also preserve an alpha channel. A transparent result can therefore be larger than the original JPEG.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes on compatible modern browsers, although processing speed and practical image size depend on the device's available memory and processing performance.
